Club Trip to Velocitas a Resounding Success A group of dedicated, enthusiastic and eager players headed off across the water for the annual club trip to our sister club Velocitas last weekend. Velocitas holds their tournament on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday, and invite us to join in the fun. This year we entered two Croydon teams and a team from Blossom House School. The weekend started for many on the Friday evening, with a small drink or two at the Velocitas Clubhouse. The main purpose of this is to relax the nerves, and encourage the opposition players to stay up as late as possible so that we have a chance of winning a few matches the next day!! Somehow some of our players seemed to get caught up in the fun, and there were some tired heads on the Saturday morning!! Saturday dawned bright and sunny, with a cloudless sky, and perfect mild temperatures. These were ideal playing conditions, with a faint breeze to soothe the brows of those who worked up more than a hint of sweat. The teams were soon in action, against a range of opposition, mainly dutch, but with the odd GB team as well. We ran, we shot, we defended, we passed, we caught, we learnt, and some even did some tricks! It was a great atmosphere (as usual) and there were many Velocitas players around to help out both on and off the pitch. All 3 of the teams won matches, some drew some, and some lost some, but most importantly, all enjoyed themselves. At the end of a long day's play, Velocitas lit up the BBQs and gave us a meat feast to replenish our energy stocks. They then put on a party to drain those recently replenished stocks!! I'm reliably told that the last of the party goers left around 7 in the morning, but of course Croydonites were safely in bed long before that!! Although we go to the tournament to play Korfball, the weekend is about so much more than that. It's about making friends, building bonds, having fun, enjoying ourselves and making lasting memories. Thanks, as always, to Velocitas for making it such a great weekend. Thanks to the "guest" players who helped us fulfill all our fixtures, both dutch and english. Thoughts to Hannah L who managed to party on crutches. Thanks to all the players who made it a weekend to remember. Story by Anna · 13 years ago
