Croydon 1 fight back to draw against Nomads 3

So in first attack was myself, Luke, Jess and Hannah leaving first defence as Zu, Andy, Kim and Kathy.

The game started off quite evenly with Nomads scoring the first goal followed up quickly by Croydon. After that we ended up going goal for goal for most of the first half. Nomads did pull away by one or two goal at points throughout the first half. There was some sloppy passing and lapses of concentration which lead to Nomads scoring, but after a timeout and a quick roasting from Colin we were quickly back on track. The first half score was 9-11 meaning Nomads had the advantage going into the second half.

Nomads came out strong in the second half scoring three more goals, extending their lead to 4 goals. Nomads then switched off for a while meaning Croydon could sneak in a few goals. Croydon then picked their heads up and starting playing much better, controlled Korfball. The scores were all tied up at 15-15 with about 15 minutes left to play. Nomads stepped up their game and ended up two ahead once again. Time for a sub, with Anna replacing Jess. It was then catch up time again with Croydon taking a goal back but Nomads quickly replied again. After playing catch up for most of the second half the scores were all tied at 19-19 with little less than 2 minutes left of game time. And then boom, we took the lead. Unfortunately not for long though as Nomads then equalised with seconds left on the clock. Leaving the final score 20-20.

Overall there is definitely room for improvement, however there was some lovely korfball and goals thrown in the mix.
There were some good battles throughout the game. And I thought everyone did well against a young and experienced team.

Closer but still no luck against Nomads 2 for Croydon 2

Final game of 2016 for the 2nds saw a rematch against Nomads 2 for the second week running. It was a marked improvement from the week before, with the game having a much better flow and well worked play from both divisions that saw quick goals in the first half.

The second half proved more and more difficult with Nomads making use of their subs which brought a renewed energy to their side. 2s attempted to keep their lead but it just slipped at the very end with the final score being 15 - 18.

Regardless this was a HUGE improvement from the previous score against this team and is something the team should be very proud of. There was a wide spread of goals from the team and everyone remained positive throughout. This is great to see and is something to hold onto going into the new year.

Excellent defensive performance seals win for CKC3

It is no coincidence that the more consistent the side has been the better the results. Having had a run of three games with almost an unchanged side CKC3 are starting to look like the side that has clinched 3 league titles in the past 5 years! The sections looked slick in attack and worked hard in defence all game. CKC3 were in control from start to finish. A special mention must go to new signing Dan James who chipped in with a well taken 4 goals.

Young CKC 5 take game to seasoned Supernova side

CKC5 started a day of home games for Croydon with a very strong performance against table topping Supernova, although falling just short of the victory at the last.

With four players under the age of 18, including Nicole making her debut, a youthful looking CKC5 lined up with Callum, Adam, Alice and Sarah in attack. Martin, Phil, Jade and Nicole in first defence.

Last time the two teams met approximately a month ago, Supernova came out dominant winners. Today would be a different story. The game started perfectly for Croydon with a long shot from Adam in our second attack, quickly followed by another. 2-0 to Croydon.

Supernova showed their class however, and fought back to 2-2 and the game would be nip and tuck from there. Next up Alice scored a lovely drop off after collecting a shot from Sarah. Sarah then went on to win a penalty which Callum cooly stepped up to convert. Two goal advantage restored.

Supernova scored again, but Phil won and converted a penalty of his own. 5-3. Supernova, would score one more before half time, but Adam sunk another long shot from almost the same position as his first to confirm a two goal lead from Croydon at half time.

A positive half time talk with advice on using space and feeds in attack, we set out. Supernova brining on a sub from a higher team to try and get the upper hand. Order of scoring is even more blurry for me second half but i think it went as follows:

Supernova scored twice to cancel out our advantage, but Sarah was not having any of it and after causing her player plenty of problems in the first half and proving opportunities for team mates sunk a long shot of her own to give the Croydon the lead once again.

At this point Supernova managed to get the upper scoring two, before good work from Nicole led to her being found in space a put up a good long shot. Unfortunately it bounced off the rim, but Martin was there to cooly slot in the drop off rebound. All square again.

Supernova scored first again following the change of ends, but Adam manged to score another shot from distance to tie the game.

And so the pattern continued. This time Phil scoring under the post at the second attempt after getting the better of his defender in the feed to cancel out a Supernova goal.

10-10. That would be all the goals for Croydon and Supernova managed to close the game out with a penalty and I think a drop off.

The result should not detract from the performance however. CKC5 pushed the team at the top of the table from the start to the finish. Croydon defended as a unit and with control that far outstrips the mixture of experience within the team. In attack, more composure and confidence in our passing and movement will lead to more opportunities without the need to play at as high a tempo, but that is for 2017. CKC5 end 2016 with their heads held high.

Have a great Xmas and New Year.
