10-4 10-4 Over and out

With the games for the day running late, Croydon 3 had plenty of time to relax before they played a Very energetic Bec team.

First attack started with Karen, Vicky, Mark and Alex. Leaving Ellen, Kay, Martin and Ed to defend.

It was Croydon that got off to a good start scoring the first goal but then Bec got one of their own, however after that the thirds just didnít take their foot off the pedal. The twins were working well together and were confusing their players, yes I think the matching trainers really helped with that!
Croydon were everywhere with shots coming from everyone and defending being kept tight by everyone. The whistle came and Croydon went into half time with the lead. 10-4.

After the break Croydon came out and carried on where they left off. Alex was playing his best game of the season and was chasing loose ball and putting his player under pressure in defence and taking his shots, scoring 4. Ed was working hard for his shots and after being awarded his third free throw of the game he scored it with ease. Vicky had a tall girl but was still out collecting her at the post and giving everything to win the loose balls. Mark was taking his shots and should have had more than three but they didnít seem to want to go in! Karen was giving all she had left in the tank after playing one full game and reffing another earlier in the day but she still managed to score for from all over the pitch.... just not from the penalty spot! (Yes it was a very bad miss!!) Ellen and Kay seemed to be all over the pitch, pressuring their players in collect and out tight on their shots. They should have had more goals but again the korf had other ideas! Martin was working hard as well making sure his player didnít see too much of the ball and score a lovely goal from way down town!

As the time was winding down the young Bec players were getting more and more wound up with the score line, the ref and the Croydon players! With the final whistle of the game it ended 20-8. A score line that Croydon 3 can be more the proud of. The team worked together with passes being direct and to point. A Big well done to everyone and thanks to Simon for reffing the game.

Tight defence wins the day against Croydon 4

Sadly Croydon4 finished the round robin league season as they started, with a crushing defeat to Supernova 4. This was mainly due to the overwhelming defence of Supernova who kept a very tight leash on either attacking section. However Supernova cannot take all the credit minimal poor defensive work by Croydon 4 (namely myself) was justifiably punished but also the lack of co-ordination within Croydon 4 particularly in the first half.

First attack were Craig, Kerry, Charlotte and David leaving Jon, Paul, Danielle, and Laura in first defence against I think the much stronger section. Supernova started the scoring which was soon equalised by Croydon's Craig with a little drop off, Supernova then sunk two more before Kerry pulled one back for Croydon the opposition gained another one before Paul sunk a lovely long shot to bring the teams in at half time 5-3 to Supernova.
Although Croydon's defence moved up a gear, particularly in Jon's section with both Danielle and Laura working for all their worth against vastly superior opponents, only allowing one goal attempt to succeed.
In the other section again Charlotte, Kerry and Craig all worked well keeping a tight reign on their players with Craig covering David successfully on a number of occasions, and the girls fighting hard to hinder their opponents attack.

It just leaves me to thank all those that have played and indeed assisted in either coaching, giving advice from the side-lines and for those who came to my rescue when I was short of players.

As always if I have neglected to mention or mixed things up a little please feel free to add/amend

Croydon Swans remain unbeaten in 2015!

Swans arrived at Royal Russell to take on Highbury 3 hoping to continue with their winning ways in 2015!

The game started well as each section switched into gear quickly. In first attack was Joe, Roger, Lindsey and Wendy and in first defence was Ben, Leo, Jocelyn and Jess. In attack, there were lots of chances and recycling of the ball. Then Joe managed to score 2 quick goals in succession! Sections switched and Ben scored an impressive long shot from 6 metres to make it 3-0. Jocelyn put up a close shot which was nicely rebounded by Jess and scored making it 4-0. Sections changed and Rog converted a confident long shot! The score at half time was 5-0 to swans.

The half time talk focused on doing more of the same and continuing to mix up the roles in attack. As the second half started, Highbury came back fighting and scored a quick goal that took the swans off guard. Ben repeated his previous form and scored another long shot taking the score to 6-1. Highbury were determined not to give up and scored a couple making the score 6-3. Leo was light on his feet and ran his man numerous times and managed to convert a good running in shot. Roger, Wends, Lindsey and Joe worked well together in attack with each person taking it in turns to support and shoot. This resulted in Joe scoring another 1 hander, followed by Roger calmly scoring a lovely running in shot. Final score was 9-5 and the Swans remain undefeated in 2015. A great team performance from all but MVP goes to Lindsey for working the post well and for putting great pressure on her player in defence!
