Croydon 1 into double figures against Nomads 1

Croydon 1 took on the might of Nomads 1 in the spacious Royal Russell. Croydon started with captain Omar in attack with Jeanes, Withers and Johnson. Defence was Mills, Ellis, Driver and Pratt.

Croydon had some good spells in both attack and defence, but the jumping ability, and speed of the Nomads boys and the assists from their girls were to prove the the Croydonites undoing.

The opposition were scoring at a faster rate than the home team, and despite the best efforts of those on the pitch, Croydon couldn't stop them.

Croydon will be pleased to have reached double figures in their own scoring, but will be dissappointed to have let 26 goals in, particularly the goals let in at the end when concentration wasn't what it should have been.

Croydon 4 leave it late to pull away

Croydon 4 went to Millwall for a slightly delayed fixture. In first defence were Jon, Beccy David and Laura (playing her first game for the club) whist at the other end were Emma, Ben, Phil and Charlotte. The day hadn't started well for Charlotte because on the way there she got a call in the team bus(Davids car) from home which confirmed that she had taken the only car keys with her-her husband was forced to take the kids swimming by taking a cab! But that didn't put her off her game and she soon equalised to Highburys early strike. After trying to stretcher off one of his female opponents Jon got an easy shot from 3m and Ben Emma, Beccy and David were rattling the basket but the ball just wouldn't go in. Meanwhile Laura was playing a blinder, marking her opponent so tight that she didn't get a shot in. At the end of the half Highbury equalised at 2-2 but Croydon sensed the game was theirs for the taking.
In the second half Phil started putting his long shots in which was a good tactic because Ben was outjumping his taller opponent in collect and 2 of them went in. Laura continued to find space in attack and made sure the ball was hers in defence. If her attempt on goal had been allowed her fan club in the gallery would have gone wild. But no one could believe it when Emma's opponent scored by a fluke from distance which was so clearly defended it touched Emmas hand on the way in. They then pulled another back to make it 4-4 with about 8 minutes to play.
Charlotte came to the rescue again with a confident shot from about 4m. This relaxed Croydon and Ben found found the basket and then Beccy set up Jon for a running in shot. In the final throw of the game she got her goal, the second game in a row she has scored in the final few seconds.
So well played everyone and hope you got home safely particularly Ben and Emma setting out into the night to walk to Bermondsey station past a poster of a breadknife with the caption www.itdoesn'thaveto happen.co.uk!
