CKC trip to DES Tournament, Delft
Three Croydon teams (with a few Dutch ringers) made their way over to Delft for the DES tournament over the late May Bank Holiday.
The blazing hot Saturday saw some great performances from all teams with the 2nds unbeaten - winning all games bar one draw and the 1sts and 3rds winning more than losing.
Saturday night also saw some success with Dan Pratt winning the Del boy award for falling out of the entertainment tent, although to be fair he did manage to save most of his beer. A mention must also be made for the (overly) energetic Tammy Kentfield and Saskia's sister who has now perfected the art of doing the splits to the tune of Macho Man (or similar dodgy Dutch "music").
Sunday was a grateful rest day especially as the weather turned on us but the sun was back out for Monday's concluding competition. The 3rds finished level at the top of their pool and so faced a penalty shoot-out. Jules Johnson set the mood for this test of nerve by strolling up, beer in hand, before sending the ball far over the post to the surprise of most of the crowd (but sadly none of her team-mates). Positive-thinking captain Barker also fulfilled her own prophecy and missed in similar fashion. Suffice to say the Dutchies weren't troubled and so walked it 7-3. After their great exploits earlier, the 2nds tailed off a little and so also finished runners up whilst the 1sts scooped their pool and so a big trophy.
A great time was had by all so I dare say we'll be back next year for more small drinks paid for with cardboard tokens.
